This Man United star begs Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to start him against Paris Saint-Germain

Manchester United forward Edinson Cavani has pleaded with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to select him from the start against former club Paris Saint-Germain.

The Uruguayan joined United as a free agent in October after leaving the Ligue 1 giants following seven seasons in the French capital.

Despite becoming PSG’s record scorer, Cavani’s exit was acrimonious as the club only offered him a short-term extension to play in the Champions League – which the striker refused as he wanted longer terms.

Cavani hadn’t played for seven months when he moved to Old Trafford but after being afforded some time to build up his fitness, the 33-year-old has made a bright start to life at the club.

The veteran changed Sunday’s game at Southampton by assisting one and scoring two as United came from 2-0 down to beat the Saints.

And Solskjaer has revealed that Cavani is now gunning to face former club PSG and has asked the Norwegian if he can start against Thomas Tuchel’s side to prove a point.

‘It’s always special for players to see your old mates and friends and, of course, the career he had at PSG was fantastic,’ said Solskjaer.

‘He’s so professional and he’s ready to participate and he’s another one who is holding his hand up, saying ‘I want to play this one’.

Asked if that’s precisely the type of dilemma he wants his players to put him in, Solskjaer said: ‘It’s brilliant! [Smiles] That is the challenge that you want.

‘I really dislike saying to someone you’re not starting or you take away the possibility of playing in big games.

‘But they’re all big games. Every three days, there is another one and another one, so we’ve got plenty of games coming up.’
