Offa burnt train coaches for rehabilitation, says NRC

Punch

THE Management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation has said that the burnt train coaches at its Offa yard railway station are meant for rehabilitation.

The management was reacting to The PUNCH report on the burnt train coaches of last week Thursday.

In a statement signed on Wednesday by Isah Salami on behalf of the Western District of NRC, the management said that the burnt coaches were not for the Lagos/ Kano bound train.

“These coaches are not on the Lagos-Kano bound passenger train as alleged in the said publication, but rather are empty coaches marshalled at our Offa yard station earmarked for complete rehabilitation in due course.

“Nigerian Railway Corporation management hereby allays the fears of our esteem passengers or their relatives of any fire accident involving our coaches.

“The Lagos-Kano passenger train officially departs Lagos every Friday noon, hence it is totally untrue and false that the said train coaches are involved in the fire accident,” he further explained.

The NRC said it appreciated the Kwara State Fire Service for their quick intervention in putting out the fire that engulfed the coaches, awaiting rehabilitation at Offa Railway Station.
