Amid rumours of him leaving the Parisian club
Neymar has been deemed sellable this summer by Paris Saint-Germain, but the Brazilian has nonetheless extended his contract with the club by a way of an automatic clause in his deal.
The likes of Chelsea and Juventus have been linked with the forward and it had been believed that the French club would be open to offers.
Now, however, according to L’Equipe, Neymar has triggered a clause in his contract that will see him stay until 2027.
This move would likely have frustrated PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and his plans of cashing in on him. As MARCA reported, the leaders of the French club are keen to sell Neymar.
The renewal of Kylian Mbappe, who will be the star player of the project, alleviates any kind of dependence on Neymar who has lost importance in the team in recent years.
His salary, up to 30 million euros per year net, is an impediment for PSG.
Chelsea have emerged as the likeliest destination should he leave, with new owner Todd Boehly eager to make a statement signing.
Neymar became the most expensive transfer in the history of football when PSG paid Barcelona 222 million euros to buy out his contract in 2017.
