Super Eagles will bounce back soon – Philips

LAGOS – President of the Nigeria Pitch Awards (NPA), Mr Shina Philips has urged Nigerians, especially football lovers to be patient with the new board of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) as the Super Eagles are not in action at the ongoing Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Philips made this known in Lagos on Tuesday during the unfolding of plans for the ninth edition of the NPA billed to hold in March 2023.

“As the attention of the football world is focused on the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, we understand the disappointment of many Nigerians that our dearly loved national team, the Super Eagles are not among the top teams competing for honours.

“As stakeholders in the Nigerian football project, we restate our belief that the Super Eagles and other national teams will bounce back and retain their place of dominance in continental and global football competitions,” he said.

While congratulating Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau on his election as the President of the NFF, Philips expressed confidence in the new administration and the coaching crew of the national teams.

“We urge Nigerians to be patient with the new management and continue to give their support to them. Over the years, Gusau has been a passionate supporter of football in Nigeria and his contributions to the growth of our football especially at the grassroots level have never been in doubt.

“He is a consummate administrator and team player. We therefore unreservedly express our confidence in his ability to deliver on his mandate and move our football forward,” he said.
