The Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Sununu, has suggested extending the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) from one year to two. He believes a longer program could better equip graduates with skills for self-reliance and national development.
Speaking during a visit by the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Y.D. Ahmed, the minister emphasized the importance of strengthening the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) component of the NYSC.
“Let NYSC give people more opportunity to become job creators that will meet the needs of the country,” he said.
Dr. Sununu also called for greater accountability and data collection within the scheme, noting the role of the NYSC in addressing youth unemployment and building national unity.
