Five killed, 19 injured as speeding Toyota bus rams into pedestrians in Yobe

At least five persons died, and 19 sustained injuries when a speeding Toyota bus lost control and rammed into pedestrians at Damagum weekly market in Yobe State. The incident occurred on Monday along the Kano-Maiduguri expressway, with eyewitnesses blaming the driver’s high speed and failed brakes.

FRSC Sector Commander Livinus Longzen Yilzoom confirmed the crash, stating, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver was driving at high speed… He applied brakes, which failed, and lost control.” The victims included a pregnant woman, highlighting the dangers of roadside trading and reckless driving. Authorities reiterated warnings against such practices.
