A man has been charged with assault after allegedly slapping Manchester City midfielder Jack Grealish during a Premier League match at Old Trafford. The incident occurred during City’s 3-1 win over Manchester United, when a pitch invader ran onto the field and appeared to strike Grealish before being apprehended by security.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed the arrest and said the individual, a 22-year-old, has been charged with common assault and pitch encroachment. “We take incidents like this extremely seriously and will continue working with clubs to ensure player safety,” the force said in a statement.

Manchester City expressed concern over the breach in security and emphasized the need for stronger measures to protect players. Grealish was not injured and continued playing after the incident.

The Premier League also condemned the act, calling it “unacceptable.” The man is expected to appear in court later this month. The case has reignited debate around stadium security and fan behaviour.
