The Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI) has garnered $491 million in investments, resulting in the creation of over 84,000 jobs within its first year, according to the initiative’s coordinator, Michael Oluwagbemi.
The program, which aims to promote the use of compressed natural gas (CNG) in Nigeria’s automotive sector, has made significant strides, generating more than 9,000 direct jobs and about 75,000 indirect jobs. The initiative supports Nigeria’s transition to cleaner energy solutions, especially following the petrol subsidy removal in 2023.
The vehicle conversion capacity under PCNGI has grown rapidly, from just seven units at its inception to over 200 today. This expansion is further fueled by the Conversion Incentive Programme (CIP), which was launched in August 2024 by President Bola Tinubu, leading to the recruitment of 3,000 new technicians
