In a significant development, President Bola Tinubu has ordered the withdrawal of security details from prominent Lagos monarchs, including Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, the Oniru of Iru Land, and Oba Alayeluwa Saheed Ademola Elegushi, the Elegushi of Ikate-Elegushi Kingdom.
The decision aligns with the ongoing political crisis within the Lagos State House of Assembly. Following the controversial impeachment of Speaker Mudashiru Obasa on January 13, 2025, and his subsequent return to office, security aides assigned to his successor, Mojisola Meranda, were withdrawn, facilitating Obasa’s reinstatement.
A palace source confirmed the withdrawal of Oba Lawal’s security personnel, stating, “That was the directive we got this morning.”
