Senator Ali Ndume has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of violating Nigeria’s federal character principle in recent political appointments
Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District, has publicly criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent political appointments, alleging non-compliance with Nigeria’s federal character principle as enshrined in Section 14(3) of the 1999 Constitution. In a recent interview, Ndume stated, “I sent you figures. It’s not that I’m just making accusations. Section 14(3) of the Constitution is very, very clear.”
Emphasizing his role as a legislator, Ndume remarked that holding the President accountable is part of his constitutional duty, clarifying that his criticism is not personal. He noted, “People look at me as someone critical of the government. I have the right to do that, and in fact, that’s why I’m in the National Assembly.”
Additionally, Ndume praised President Tinubu’s appointment of Daniel Bwala as Special Adviser on Public Communication and Media, viewing it as a demonstration of the President’s inclusiveness. He advised Bwala to seek reconciliation with Vice President Kashim Shettima, suggesting that working together would promote the administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
These developments highlight ongoing discussions about federal character compliance and internal party dynamics within Nigeria’s political landscape.
