Dennis Amachree, a former Assistant Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), has recommended that soldiers assigned to enforce the state of emergency in Rivers State be redeployed to Borno State.
A former Assistant Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Dennis Amachree, has called on the Federal Government and military authorities to redeploy soldiers currently stationed in Rivers State under the recently declared state of emergency to Borno State.
Appearing on a television program, Amachree stated, “There is no serious problem going on in Rivers State where we will say let’s send all our troops there. We don’t have a large army.” He expressed concern over the ongoing insurgency in Borno, highlighting the need for increased military presence, “Our territorial integrity is in question right now and the reputational risk is very high.”
Amachree also praised Borno Governor Babagana Zulum’s efforts, suggesting that a state of emergency could be declared in Borno without necessitating the suspension of the governor. He remarked, “We’ve done it (state of emergency in Borno) before and this time you don’t have to remove the governor because I think that Governor Zulum is doing a fantastic job.
