Paris St-Germain secured a dramatic 3-1 comeback win over Aston Villa in the Champions League quarter-final first leg at Parc des Princes, thanks to Nuno Mendes’ stoppage-time strike.

Morgan Rogers had given Villa a surprise lead on 35 minutes, delighting away fans that included Prince William. But PSG responded swiftly, with Desire Doue curling in a spectacular equaliser just four minutes later.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia then fired the hosts ahead early in the second half before Mendes struck late to compound Villa’s woes.

Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, taunted by home fans throughout, made several key saves but was powerless to stop the decisive blow.

“It was a bitter ending,” said Unai Emery, whose side must now overturn a two-goal deficit at Villa Park.

PSG’s youthful, dynamic squad under Luis Enrique continues to impress, with eyes firmly on a first Champions League title.
