The developments deepen the party’s rift between Abure’s camp and the Otti-Obi-backed faction, with Apapa’s reemergence adding a third contender to the tussle.
The Labour Party’s leadership crisis escalated Wednesday as Lamidi Apapa declared himself acting chairman, citing the Supreme Court’s recent judgment that nullified Julius Abure’s position. Apapa, backed by a factional statement from Abayomi Arabambi, asserted: “All actions by Abure since April 2023 are void,” while scheduling a NWC meeting to discuss zoning key positions.
Meanwhile, Governor Alex Otti and Peter Obi celebrated receiving the judgment’s Certified True Copy in Abuja. Otti told supporters: “The 48-page document confirms your leadership,” emphasizing compliance with the verdict. The developments deepen the party’s rift between Abure’s camp and the Otti-Obi-backed faction, with Apapa’s reemergence adding a third contender to the tussle.
