Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has reaffirmed his commitment to revitalizing the state’s development, emphasizing a renewed focus on energy sector reforms. In a recent address, he stated, “I’m back with a double dose of energy.” This declaration underscores his administration’s dedication to infrastructural improvements and economic growth, aiming to uplift the living standards of Cross River residents.

Under Governor Otu’s leadership, significant strides have been made in enhancing the state’s power supply. The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) restored electricity to Bekwarra Local Government Area after a 15-year blackout, a development lauded by both residents and officials. Innocent Inaku, PHEDC Branch Manager for Cross River North and Central, commended the governor’s efforts, stating, “The governor directed the state rural electrification agency to develop a plan of action to reconnect and rehabilitate the power network in phases.” This initiative has significantly improved the local economy and quality of life for the residents.

Furthermore, the Cross River State Government has demonstrated a proactive approach to energy sector development by partnering with the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE). This collaboration aims to address challenges in the electricity sector and promote sustainable energy solutions. Governor Otu emphasized the importance of this partnership, highlighting that “the power sector is an essential part of economic growth in any society.”

These developments reflect Governor Otu’s strategic vision to harness the state’s energy resources, stimulate economic growth, and enhance the well-being of its citizens.
