The Federal Government has signed a $328.8 million contract with China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) to overhaul and expand Nigeria’s electricity transmission network. The deal falls under Phase 1 of the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI) and targets critical infrastructure improvements.

At the signing ceremony in Abuja, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu said the project would cover 544 kilometres of 330kV and 132kV transmission lines. “This will support a load capacity of 7,140 megawatts and ensure more reliable electricity across the country,” he noted.

Kenny Anuwe, Managing Director of FGN Power Company, described the move as “a strategic step toward building a transmission network that matches our growing generation capacity.”

Li Xiaoyu, Vice President of SINOMACH, parent company of CMEC, expressed gratitude to the Nigerian government, adding, “We are committed to delivering infrastructure that will significantly improve power distribution.”

The project complements ongoing collaborations with Siemens Energy and marks a key step in tackling Nigeria’s persistent electricity challenges.
