The expert also called for public enlightenment campaigns to correct the misconception that breast cancer only affects women.

Men with enlarged breasts have a higher risk of developing breast cancer, a surgical oncologist, Dr. Olalekan Abdur-Rahman, has said.
Speaking during an interview in Lagos, the expert explained that although breast cancer is less common in men, the condition known as gynecomastia—where males develop abnormally large breasts—can increase their chances of being diagnosed with the disease.
“Men with larger breasts are more at risk of developing breast cancer, particularly when it is associated with hormonal imbalance,” he said.
Dr. Abdur-Rahman emphasized the need for awareness, adding that many men present late because they don’t suspect they could be affected. “Unfortunately, men are diagnosed at more advanced stages due to a lack of awareness,” he noted.
