Iran and the United States have described Saturday’s nuclear talks in Oman as “positive” and “constructive,” with both sides agreeing to meet again next Saturday.

The meeting marks the first high-level direct contact between Tehran and the Trump administration amid renewed efforts to address Iran’s expanding nuclear programme.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said the dialogue was held in a “productive, calm and positive atmosphere,” noting that both sides were nearing a framework for negotiations. “If we can conclude this basis next week, we’ll be able to start real discussions,” he said.

The talks included Trump’s Middle East envoy, Steven Witkoff, US Ambassador to Oman, Ana Escrogima, and Araqchi. The White House called the meeting “a step forward in achieving a mutually beneficial outcome.”

Oman, known for its neutral diplomacy, hosted the discussions amid heightened tensions following the collapse of the 2015 nuclear deal.
