“If we are mismanaging what God has given us, we do not have God to blame, we have ourselves to blame.”
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said Nigeria’s poverty crisis stems from poor leadership, not a lack of resources.
“Nigerians have no business with poverty because God has given us all that we need,” he said Friday night during a dinner hosted by the Abia State Government in his honour.
“If we are mismanaging what God has given us, we do not have God to blame, we have ourselves to blame.”
Obasanjo commended Governor Alex Otti for reforms in Abia State, urging him to sustain the momentum. He added, “If we have 18 governors doing well, we will build the country up.”
Otti credited Obasanjo’s support and emphasized perseverance in leadership. “It took us ten years to get here,” he said, recalling election struggles.
Former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi urged early preparations for 2027 polls and praised Obasanjo’s legacy. “In your case, no matter who becomes president, you have always stood out,” he said, urging Abians to protect competent leadership.
