Legal experts have weighed in on how former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu might have avoided a jail sentence in the UK over an organ trafficking conviction. According to legal analyst Deji Adeyanju, Ekweremadu’s failure to follow proper legal and ethical channels ultimately led to his imprisonment.

“He should have disclosed all the facts about the donor’s background and sought proper medical and immigration clearances,” Adeyanju said. “This case was not just about organ donation—it was about consent and deception.”

The UK court found that Ekweremadu and his wife plotted to bring a young Nigerian man to London to harvest his kidney for their ailing daughter. The prosecution argued that the victim was misled and not properly informed about the procedure.
