A U.S. District Court has ruled that there is no evidence the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) holds any records on Nigerian President Bola Tinubu. The court made the declaration in response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit filed by U.S.-based Nigerian journalist Jackson Ude, seeking documents from several American agencies on Tinubu’s past.

Judge Beryl A. Howell, who presided over the case, stated that the CIA had conducted a thorough search and found no responsive records. “There is no evidence that CIA maintains records responsive to the plaintiff’s request,” the ruling stated.

The court also noted that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) had already released all relevant documents in their possession. The decision brings clarity to widespread speculation over the existence of classified information on Tinubu in U.S. custody.
