The United States Embassy in Nigeria has announced new, stricter requirements for visa applicants, set to take effect from April 22, 2025. According to a statement from the embassy, the updated process will affect non-immigrant visa categories and is aimed at enhancing security and improving the integrity of visa applications.
“All applicants must now present additional documentation to support the purpose of their travel, financial capacity, and ties to Nigeria,” the statement read. Interviews will also be more rigorous, with increased scrutiny on previous travel history and visa compliance.
The embassy emphasized that the changes are not targeted at Nigerians specifically but are part of a broader global policy shift. However, the move comes amid rising visa rejections and concerns over overstays.
