If anyone depends solely on the food served by the authority, I bet you that such a person will die.
Inmates at Ikoyi Custodial Centre have raised alarm over poor feeding, alleging that meals served are worse than “dog’s food.” Tony, an inmate, told Daily Trust that the regimented feeding pattern leaves many malnourished, with beans full of stones and watery soups devoid of protein. “If anyone depends solely on the food served by the authority, such a person will die,” he said. Meanwhile, the NCoS disputes the claims, calling them exaggerated.
A ministerial panel confirmed inmates are “dying of hunger,” but the NCoS acting Comptroller-General dismissed the allegations, citing lack of evidence. Inmates at Ikoyi revealed their meals consist of poorly cooked beans, watery soups, and dry garri, forcing many to rely on canteen purchases. “Our saving grace is buying food from the staff canteen,” an inmate said. The dispute highlights worsening conditions in correctional facilities.
