The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has filed a N20 billion lawsuit against President Bola Tinubu and several top government officials over alleged moves to impose a state of emergency in Rivers State. Filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, the suit lists the Attorney-General of the Federation, the National Assembly, and security agencies among the defendants.

The party claims the plot to declare emergency rule is politically motivated and poses a threat to democracy. “We seek an order restraining the defendants from taking any steps that may undermine democratic governance in Rivers,” the party stated.

The suit comes amid rising political tension in the state, following clashes between rival factions within the ruling party. The ADC argued that deploying federal power to interfere in state matters without due process is unconstitutional.
