The former Anambra State Governor explained that despite several attempts, he was unable to establish direct contact with the Benue State Governor.
The Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, has expressed dismay over the sudden cancellation of his planned humanitarian visit to Benue State. In a statement on Monday, Obi described the development as “deeply troubling,” saying he had attempted multiple times to reach the state’s governor to notify him of the trip, but received no response.
Obi explained that his outreach to internally displaced persons and institutions in Plateau and Benue was purely humanitarian. While Plateau State welcomed him warmly, he was forced to abandon his Benue trip after receiving a press statement from the government halting his visit.
“The statement outlined precisely the itinerary I had earlier shared,” Obi said.
He added, “May God help us… where we do not politicise everything, but instead live and act for the common good.”
