A coalition of women took to the streets of Port Harcourt on Monday, declaring support for President Bola Tinubu’s emergency rule in Rivers State and opposing suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The political crisis in Rivers State escalated on Monday as a coalition of women groups marched in Port Harcourt, backing the emergency rule declared by President Bola Tinubu.
Dressed in white, the protesters moved from the Garrison Flyover to Isaac Boro Park, carrying placards reading “State of Emergency is Constitutional” and “We Don’t Want Fubara.” The protest was led by Ifeyinwa Aguma, a former commissioner and ally of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
The group expressed support for Ibok-Ette Ibas, appointed by Tinubu to administer the state after the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and the Rivers House of Assembly.
“By this declaration,” Tinubu said, “the Governor of Rivers State, Mr Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Mrs Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the House of Assembly… are hereby suspended for an initial period of six months.”
Meanwhile, PDP governors have condemned the move and taken legal action to challenge the declaration.
