IPOB rejects Army recruitment for Igbo youths, says focus should be on employment at CBN, NNPCL

IPOB questions why the government does not offer viable job prospects for Igbos in other sectors.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has cautioned youths from the Southeast against applying for enlistment in the Nigerian Army, labeling the Army’s recent recruitment drive as an attempt to exploit Igbo people. IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful, in a statement on Tuesday, accused the Nigerian Military of attempting to use Southeast youths as “sacrificial lambs” in the ongoing insurgency in northern Nigeria.

“We caution Ndigbo against encouraging and campaigning for Igbo youths to enlist to combat state and foreign-sponsored terrorists who have more resources than the Nigerian Army,” said Powerful.

The IPOB further questioned the Nigerian government’s commitment to the welfare of the soldiers, asking, “What actions has the Nigerian government taken to support the families of soldiers who died in active duty defending Nigeria?”
