2027: Tinubu, PDP governors deal making

ABUJA, Nigeria — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is facing deepening internal discord as fresh claims emerge of a covert alliance between President Bola Tinubu and several of the party’s governors. According to Daily Sun, the arrangement—described as a “gentleman pact”—is fueling the crisis of confidence within Nigeria’s main opposition party.

Sources say first-term PDP governors have pledged to support Tinubu’s 2027 re-election in return for federal support to secure their own political futures. “The pact is such that Mr. President will get the support of the governors without necessarily defecting to the APC,” one insider revealed.

Akwa Ibom Governor’s recent remarks have been cited as confirmation. “As for me, I’m supporting Baba Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term… Let me keep it for now, no need to lie to ourselves,” he stated at a public event.

The growing influence of FCT Minister and former Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike, is reportedly another factor. “Wike is behind many of these alignments,” the source added, noting support from governors in Oyo, Adamawa, and Plateau.

The presidency and APC have denied involvement, but Tinubu’s ambitions are clear. “Like every other president, Tinubu is not hiding his desire to rule Nigeria beyond 2027,” a source close to the matter said.

Observers note the pattern of defections and realignments mirrors those seen in 2015 and 2019, suggesting history may be repeating itself. “You rub my back, I rub yours kind of arrangement,” the source concluded.
