“Anybody that you find with dreadlocks, arrest, barb the hair, and fine the person,” the governor said. “Nobody should carry any kind of haircut inside Minna. I have given marching orders to security agencies.”
Governor Umar Bago of Niger State has directed security operatives to arrest and fine individuals wearing dreadlocks in Minna, the state capital.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ security meeting at the Government House on Tuesday, Bago also ordered officers to forcibly cut such hairstyles.
“Anybody that you find with dreadlocks, arrest, barb the hair, and fine the person,” the governor said. “Nobody should carry any kind of haircut inside Minna. I have given marching orders to security agencies.”
The meeting was attended by security agencies and traditional rulers.
Bago emphasized his administration’s “zero tolerance for rascality” and instructed that anyone found carrying arms be treated as an armed robber.
He also imposed a 6pm to 6am restriction on commercial motorcycles and tricycles in Minna, with exceptions for medical emergencies.
Furthermore, the governor warned that any property harboring criminals or involved in the sale of illicit drugs would be demolished.
District, village, and ward heads were urged to ensure proper documentation of residents in their areas.
