“The strikes must be stopped immediately and unconditionally,” President Zelensky stated.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky cancelled part of his South Africa trip Thursday after Russian missile and drone strikes on Kyiv killed at least eight people and injured over 70. The attacks, targeting the well-defended capital, trapped civilians under rubble and damaged 13 sites, officials said.
“It has been 44 days since Ukraine agreed to a full ceasefire… and 44 days of Russia continuing to kill our people,” Zelensky posted on X, calling for an “immediate and unconditional” halt to the strikes.
The Ukrainian air force reported that of the 215 projectiles fired, 112 were intercepted. In the Sviatoshinsky district, rescue crews searched debris for survivors as calls were heard from under collapsed structures.
US efforts to mediate peace suffered another blow after former President Donald Trump accused Zelensky of prolonging the conflict by refusing to concede Crimea.
Meanwhile, Russia also hit Kharkiv and claimed to have downed 87 Ukrainian drones overnight, including 45 over Crimea.
