“How can you say you want peace and at the same time, you are sponsoring people to insult everyone, including the President and his wife?”
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has condemned Friday’s walkout on First Lady Oluremi Tinubu by women loyal to suspended Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara, calling it an “embarrassment.” The incident occurred during a women’s empowerment event in Port Harcourt. Wike, currently in China, apologized, stating such actions insult the presidency.
In a statement, Wike’s spokesman said the protest was led by sacked local government officials. “Insult on anyone representing the First Lady is a direct insult on the President,” Wike declared. He accused Fubara’s supporters of hypocrisy, claiming they publicly seek peace while undermining it through such acts.
Wike urged Fubara to clarify his stance with President Tinubu, warning against double standards. “Those who genuinely want peace work for it,” he said. The incident highlights deepening political tensions in Rivers State, with Wike’s camp distancing itself from the protest, calling it a “show of shame” unrepresentative of Rivers people.
