Senate passes tax reform bills

The Senate on Wednesday passed two key tax reform bills proposed by President Bola Tinubu—marking significant progress in the administration’s fiscal overhaul agenda.

The Senate has passed two of the four tax reform bills proposed by President Bola Tinubu. The Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill and the Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill were approved after a clause-by-clause review led by Senator Sani Musa’s ad hoc committee.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who announced the passage, said a harmonisation committee will align the Senate’s version with the House’s. The remaining two bills—the Nigeria Tax Bill 2024 and the Tax Administration Bill—are expected to be passed on Thursday.
