Akpabio drags Senator Natasha to court over ‘mocking’ apology letter

The suit demands the removal of the post, a public apology, and compliance through a sworn affidavit.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has filed a new lawsuit against suspended Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over a satirical apology she posted on Facebook on April 27. Filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja on May 7 (case no. CS/384/25), the suit seeks the immediate removal of the post from all her social media platforms.

Akpabio is also demanding a written apology published in at least two national newspapers, alongside an affidavit confirming compliance.

In the contentious post, Senator Natasha wrote, “Dear Distinguished Senate President Godswill Akpabio, It is with the deepest sarcasm and utmost theatrical regret that I tender this apology.” She further criticized what she described as “quid pro quo” politics and claimed she was punished for “possessing dignity and self-respect.”

Akpabio’s legal team, led by Kehinde Ogunwumiju, contends the post violates a court order issued April 4, which bars both parties from public commentary on pending sexual harassment allegations.
