Aisha Yesufu disagreed with Peter Obi’s comments on the 2012 Occupy Nigeria protest, stressing that protests are a democratic right and should have occurred during Jonathan’s time, not for future price hikes.

Activist Aisha Yesufu has publicly criticized Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, for his comments about the 2012 Occupy Nigeria protest. Obi had stated that there was no need for protests during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s time when fuel prices increased from N87 to N120.

Yesufu disagreed, saying, “Protest is a fundamental right in a democracy,” and that it is necessary regardless of the government in power. She also emphasized that protests should have occurred during Jonathan’s era, not for future price increases, which people cannot protest in advance.
