Three Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senators from Kebbi State have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), dealing a blow to the opposition. The lawmakers—Senators Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central), Yahaya Abubakar Abdullahi (Kebbi North), and Garba Maidoki (Kebbi South)—met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday. Led by APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the high-profile defection signals a major shift in Kebbi’s political landscape. Also present were Kebbi Governor Nasir Idris, Sokoto Governor Ahmad Aliyu, and Minister Atiku Bagudu.

The move strengthens APC’s dominance in Kebbi and the National Assembly ahead of key legislative agendas. Aliero, a former governor, said, “We are joining APC to support the President’s vision for national development.” Analysts view the defection as part of ongoing political realignments ahead of future elections. With this development, APC now holds all three Kebbi Senate seats, further consolidating its grip on the Northwest region.
