Following a thorough review of our academic records, we can confirm that there is no evidence that this individual was ever awarded any degree by the University nor studied here.

The head of Liberia’s doctors’ association, Dr. Peter Matthew George, has been barred from practising medicine after the Liberia Medical and Dental Council (LMDC) found no evidence supporting his claimed medical degree from the UK’s University of Hertfordshire. The LMDC revoked his license in April, stating he failed to provide a valid certificate, instead submitting an “award verification letter” referencing an “MD”—a degree not offered by the UK institution. The university confirmed to the BBC that Dr. George was never a student there, calling his claim “false.”

Dr. George denies the allegations, accusing the LMDC of bias due to his advocacy in a dispute between doctors and Liberia’s government. He later admitted his LinkedIn profile erroneously listed Hertfordshire, attributing it to “pressure,” and clarified his primary degree was from the University of Central Nicaragua. The LMDC, however, emphasized its investigation found no record of a medical program at Hertfordshire.

The controversy has raised questions about Liberia’s medical licensing oversight. Dr. George insists his credentials were accepted when he began practising in 2014, but the LMDC maintains its audit aims to uphold standards.
