“She admitted she didn’t want to care for the boy and hoped to start a business with the money,” said a police spokesperson.
A 20-year-old Ukrainian woman from Dnipro has been sentenced to eight years in prison for attempting to sell her two-year-old son for £18,000.
According to Ukraine’s national police, the woman—whose name was not disclosed—was arrested after receiving cash from a known buyer.
Shocking footage captured the moment of her arrest, with police counting the money and escorting the handcuffed mother away.
A social worker was seen carrying the toddler to a waiting vehicle before placing him in state care.
“She admitted she didn’t want to care for the boy and hoped to start a business with the money,” said a police spokesperson.
The Dnipropetrovsk prosecutor’s office confirmed that the woman offered the child for one million hryvnias. Despite pleading not guilty, she was convicted of human trafficking against a minor.
The incident follows similar cases in Russia, highlighting a disturbing trend of attempted child sales under economic or personal pressures.
