Anambra led with 14 suspects—13 for impersonation and one for a picture mismatch—while Lagos followed with nine arrests.
Anambra and Lagos states have topped the list of suspected examination malpractice cases in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, according to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed on Friday during a briefing in Abuja that 80 suspects are currently under police investigation.
“We observed new fraud methods during registration and exams,” Oloyede said, citing biometric manipulations, double registrations, and candidate impersonation.
Anambra recorded 14 suspects—13 for impersonation and one for a picture mismatch—while Lagos followed with nine arrests. Other states with notable cases include Delta (8), Kano (7), Kaduna (6), and Rivers (6). Ebonyi and Enugu had five each.
In a particularly unusual case, Oloyede revealed that a blind candidate hired another blind undergraduate as an impersonator.
The board also announced the release of the 2025 UTME results, showing that over 1.5 million of the 1.9 million candidates scored below 200, the average benchmark.
