The claim was made by suspended senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, alleging that Senate President Godswill Akpabio harvested Iniubong’s organs to save his wife.
The sister of slain jobseeker Iniubong Umoren has refuted allegations that the victim’s organs were harvested following her 2021 murder.
Speaking during a press conference in Uyo, Ifiok Umoren said, “How can someone claim that my sister’s organs were harvested when I was right there during the autopsy?”
The claim was made by suspended senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, alleging that Senate President Godswill Akpabio harvested Iniubong’s organs to save his wife. Ifiok called the accusation “deeply hurtful” and “outrageous.”
She was joined by Akwa Ibom’s Director of Public Prosecution, Friday Itim, and Legal Aid Council’s Samuel Abdullah, who affirmed that the autopsy showed all organs intact.
“The autopsy report is available to the public,” Abdullah said. “Neither prosecution nor defence ever mentioned Senator Akpabio.”
Convicted killer Uduak Akpan was sentenced to death in 2022. Officials say the crime involved no third party.
The Umoren family is now considering legal action against Akpoti-Uduaghan over what they describe as a defamatory claim.
