The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has declared a lockdown on May 30, 2025, to honor Biafran heroes who sacrificed their lives for the defunct Republic of Biafra.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced a lockdown on May 30, 2025, to commemorate Biafran heroes and heroines who sacrificed their lives in the pursuit of independence.

The group emphasized that the lockdown would be observed from 6 am to 6 pm, with essential services exempted. IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful, stated, “The peak of the yearly memorial and remembrance event will occur on May 30th, 2025, known as the Biafra Heroes Memorial Day.”

The group has also urged Biafrans globally to advocate for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and to avoid protests in Nigeria due to security concerns.
