Hamas is holding direct talks with the United States aimed at ending the war in Gaza, according to senior official Dr Basem Naim. Speaking to Sky News, Naim said the group shared its peace proposal “directly” with US officials and through mediators. The deal includes a prisoner exchange, full Israeli withdrawal, unfettered aid access, and Gaza’s reconstruction.
“We are ready to hand over the government immediately if we reach an end of this war,” he said. Naim also voiced confidence in former US President Donald Trump’s ability to broker peace, stating he has “the capability and the will to reach this peaceful situation.”
The White House, however, responded cautiously. “Hamas has not demonstrated they are serious about peace,” said NSC spokesperson James Hewitt.
Despite this, Hamas emphasized cooperation, referencing its recent release of Israeli-American soldier Edan Alexander. The group warned that continued aid obstruction would “cast a negative effect” on further prisoner swap negotiations.
