In the latest attack on 15th May, 2025, ISWAP terrorists struck a bean field at Malam Karanti in Kukawa LGA, where they killed at least 50 farmers.
At least 90 farmers and fishermen have been killed in two separate attacks by suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in the Lake Chad region of Borno State. The attacks occurred between January and May 2025, with dozens more wounded or abducted, local and security sources confirmed.
The most recent attack happened on May 15 in Kukawa LGA, where ISWAP fighters struck a bean field at Malam Karanti, killing at least 50 farmers. “They have papers of the commander in charge of Malam Karanti up to Dawashi, his name is Amir Akilu. They enjoyed his protection for months in exchange for a levy before the latest incident,” a local source said.
Rival Boko Haram fighters reportedly ambushed the farmers in ISWAP-controlled areas, about nine kilometres from Baga town, further escalating violence in a region already gripped by insurgency.
