“With this, young people will find it more attractive to come to a technical college, acquire skills qualifications, get jobs locally and even beyond the borders of Nigeria.” – Idris Bugaje
The Federal Government has unveiled a plan to offer N45,000 monthly stipends to students in technical colleges nationwide to promote vocational education.
The Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Prof Idris Bugaje, disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja. He said the initiative aims to boost enrollment in the TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) sector and support skill development.
Bugaje explained that the government will also cover tuition fees, finance industrial training supervision, and fund certification processes.
“With this, young people will find it more attractive to come to a technical college, acquire skills qualifications, get jobs locally and even beyond the borders of Nigeria,” he said.
He added that President Bola Tinubu approved a N120 billion grant for the scheme, to be disbursed via the Nigerian Education Loan Fund.
“The N45,000 is not a loan, but a grant,” Bugaje emphasized. A bill is also underway to establish a National Skills Fund.
