Nigeria’s ambitious plan to transition vehicles from petrol to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) faces major setbacks due to supply shortages and inadequate infrastructure. Stakeholders report long queues at CNG stations, with some users reconverting to petrol despite government incentives like free conversion kits and VAT waivers. Truck drivers in Abuja now spend up to six days refueling, while commercial operators abandon CNG due to impractical wait times.

“If stations aren’t enough, why block new ones?” a truck driver questioned, alleging sabotage by petrol import beneficiaries. A taxi operator added: “People can’t waste six hours refueling—they’re reverting to petrol.”

  1. I was even thinking of converting one soon to cng, may God help us, is it that the blade is not sharp or that the barber doesn’t know how to barb. We have gas in large quantity here,, so much wastage at owaza that I know via gas flaring. But the gas stations I think is very few. I wish this coastal highway money, is plunged into cng exploration bcs it’s cng vehicles that will pligh that coastal highway.
