Despite securing a $10 million World Bank-assisted fund to tackle flooding in Mokwa Gully, Mohammed Umaru Bago, the Niger State governor, is begging Nigerians for money on X.

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has appealed for public donations to assist Mokwa flood victims—despite securing a $10 million World Bank fund for gully erosion control. The flash flood, which killed 150 people and displaced 503 families, has left survivors digging through debris for missing relatives. While the governor’s office claims drainage construction has begun, it simultaneously shared a First Bank account for emergency donations.

Bago’s spokesman stated: “We urge humanitarian interventions…but funds must go to approved accounts.” Critics question why the World Bank grant hasn’t mitigated the crisis.
