“Church offerings only benefit men, not God” – Pastor Damina

“They say the windows of heaven will open when you pay tithes—they’re lying. The doors have been open since Jesus rose from the dead…”

Pastor Abel Damina of Abel Damina Ministries International has stirred controversy by asserting that tithes and offerings collected in churches do not go to God but are instead used by men.

In a viral sermon clip, the cleric stated, “No offering goes to heaven. Every offering we collect is used by men.” He further claimed, “All the offerings we give to God go to men,” insisting that the funds are spent on earthly purposes.

Damina also criticized pastors who pressure congregants to tithe, calling them “tithe mongers” and accusing them of deception. “They say the windows of heaven will open when you pay tithes—they’re lying. The doors have been open since Jesus rose from the dead,” he declared.

The pastor, who positioned himself as an insider, added, “They collect from everyone but don’t give to anyone. I was there; I know how it works.” His remarks have ignited discussions on the transparency of church finances.

Religious analysts expect backlash from clergy who teach tithing as a divine obligation. Damina’s ministry has previously challenged traditional doctrines, often sparking debates in Nigeria’s Christian community.
