A British man has emerged as the sole survivor of the Air India crash that killed more than 290 people moments after take-off in Ahmedabad.

Ramesh Viswashkumar, 40, from London, was seen bloodied and limping toward an ambulance after the London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner plunged into a suburb and burst into flames.

“It all happened so quickly,” said Mr Ramesh, who was seated in 11A. “When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran.”

The plane struck a doctors’ hostel, leaving thick smoke visible over a mile away. Mr Ramesh, returning from a family visit, said his brother was on a different row. “I can’t find him any more,” he added.

Of the 242 on board, 53 were British, including 11 children. The crash may become Britain’s deadliest air disaster since Lockerbie.

Sir Keir Starmer called the incident “devastating,” adding, “My thoughts are with the passengers and their families.”
