Real Madrid respond to Wirtz–Liverpool agreement as Alexander-Arnold drops major hint

Real Madrid are unbothered by Liverpool’s €150m move for Florian Wirtz, banking instead on their new signing Franco Mastantuono.

Real Madrid are reportedly unshaken by Liverpool’s €150m deal for Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz, believing their own new signing, Franco Mastantuono from River Plate, matches up well. According to Mundo Deportivo and Defensa Central, Madrid view the 17-year-old Argentine as equally talented, insisting internally: “There’s no €110m difference between the two.” Mastantuono will join officially in August when he turns 18.

Meanwhile, former Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold was unveiled as a Real Madrid player on Thursday after a surprise early transfer. Madrid had an agreement to sign him on a free but opted to pay £8.5m to release him early from his contract.

“It was never a question of where,” Alexander-Arnold said. “If I was ever to leave Liverpool, it would only be to go to Real Madrid.”

The England international admitted the decision to leave his boyhood club was tough, but believes it was the right one, saying: “I’ve made the right one.”
