Human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to Benue State, describing it as insincere and lacking empathy for the victims of violent attacks. Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Thursday, Farotimi said the president’s presence offered little substance.
“I must say very quickly that it would have been better if the president didn’t go,” Farotimi remarked, adding that the only meaningful statement came from the Tor Tiv V, James Ayatse.
According to Farotimi, Ayatse described the killings as a “calculated, well-planned, full-scale genocidal invasion and land grabbing campaign by herder terrorists and bandits.”
He further stated, “The only thing worthy of anybody’s time was the words of the Tor Tiv… Other than that, all the president had to offer were mere windows into his preoccupation and what truly concerns his aides and assistants.”
Tinubu visited Benue on Wednesday amid rising outrage over recent killings in Guma LGA.
