Judge Martha Pacold dismissed the motion citing a lack of jurisdiction.
A federal judge has denied a motion to move R. Kelly to home confinement, despite his lawyer’s claim of an assassination attempt by prison officials.
Kelly, serving a 30-year sentence for racketeering and sex trafficking, was allegedly hospitalized after receiving an overdose of medication from staff, then returned to solitary confinement. His attorney, Beau Brindley, also alleged that officials offered an inmate a deal to kill Kelly. “Mr. Kelly’s life is in danger, and that danger is coming from Bureau of Prisons officials,” a court filing stated.
Judge Martha Pacold dismissed the motion citing a lack of jurisdiction. Prosecutors called the allegations “deeply unserious and theatrical.” Brindley has also announced plans to seek a presidential pardon, claiming political weaponization of the DOJ. Victims’ attorney Gerald Griggs countered, saying, “No amount of extrajudicial activity changes the fact that he was found guilty and must serve the sentence imposed upon him.”
