At least 13 people have been confirmed dead and several others injured following a fresh attack on Juwan Village in the Tangur district of Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State.
Chairman of the Community Peace Observers in Bokkos, Mr. Kefas Mallai, confirmed the incident, stating, “The attack occurred around 8:30p.m. on Thursday night. People were going about peacefully when suddenly, gunmen appeared and started shooting.”
He added, “Thirteen bodies were found this morning. They didn’t burn any house, they were just shooting. Anyone vulnerable they came across was targeted.”
Most of the victims were reported to be women and children.
Bokkos LGA Chairman, Hon. Amalau Samuel, also confirmed the attack. “Some of the victims are receiving treatment in different hospitals,” he said.
He noted that security personnel were alerted but arrived after the attackers had fled.
Attempts to reach Operation Safe Haven’s spokesperson, Major Samson Zhakom, were unsuccessful.
